CIEAM Scholarship Scheme

Post Graduate Coordinator: Adj. Prof Neil Page, QUT

CIEAM's post graduate scholarship scheme seeks to provide a high standard of industry-ready Masters and PhD graduates who will make significant contributions to Australia's economy. CIEAM offers full and part scholarships for post graduate degrees through its participating universities in a range of disciplines in engineering, IT, business and the humanities.

As a CIEAM scholar, students get to work with Australia's leading researchers in the lab, in the field and through direct industry-based research experience with industry participants.

As part of their degree studies, students may also participate in research management courses and relevant conferences, as well as aspects of commercialisation, technology transfer and intellectual property management. It's this education and experience that makes CRC graduates highly sought after by industry as valuable employees.

In the 4 years since the CRC's inception, CIEAM has also established a strong international network, representing further opportunity for its scholars and researchers. In July 2006, CIEAM was co-host of the World Congress on Engineering Asset Management with over 380 delegates from 26 countries, providing a unique opportunity for CIEAM scholars to participate and network with colleagues from around the world.

CIEAM is also playing an instrumental role in establishing new international standards in integrated asset management through its involvement with the International Standards Organisation.

CIEAM currently has post graduate scholars at varying levels of progress through their degrees, all undertaking innovative research in a supportive environment. Find out what they have

What CIEAM post graduate students have to say:
Lance Wilson

"I got financial assistance from CIEAM in the form of a partial scholarship. The financial support gave me the help I needed to finish my PhD, but more than that -- it reaffirmed to me that the work I was doing was genuinely relevant and worthwhile.

"As a CIEAM scholar, I got top-flight academic support, plus the opportunity to improve my network -- which led me to the job I'm in now."

Dr Lance Wilson, Queensland University of Technology

Aiwina Heng

"As a new CIEAM PhD scholar, I've been very fortunate in the level of academic, as well as personal, support I've had from my supervisors at CIEAM. They've made a big difference in helping me refine a topic that's inline with the practical needs of industry, and can be researched and written up in the required time frame.

"Studying through a CRC gives me the opportunity to work directly with industry on real-world problems, and I'm steered in the direction of highly valued discovery. As CIEAM research scholars, we get access to realistic test beds through field trips, real-life data, trial runs of proposed models on plant machinery and so on, so we're made much more aware of the practical constraints and take them into consideration when we're developing research models."

Ms Aiwina Heng, CIEAM PhD candidate, Queensland University of Technology
