Programme Overview

Systems Integration and IT is developing standards and tools for data exchange and integration between management information systems and asset based technical systems to provide strategic management decision tools in maintenance and operations.

Organisations frequently adopt business, financial, human resource, inventory and maintenance systems, which are incompatible with technical systems like system control and data acquisition and condition monitoring. Only detailed research into data modelling and analysis will bring these business and technical systems together in integrated systems, which are currently unavailable.

System Integration's major goal is to develop a multi-tier open architecture, which begins with handling sensor input via operational database systems, to data warehouses where relevant data is collected to build a timeline.

The research follows four themes:

  • Data capture and exchange,
  • Inter-operability and integration,
  • Asset data warehouse with active capabilities, and
  • Impact of collaboration and e-commerce on asset management.
