Mainpac, as a core participant of CIEAM, is collaborating closely with the centre to integrate its research outcomes into commercialised product offerings.

The relationship between Mainpac and CIEAM provides the opportunity to harness Mainpac’s 27 years of experience in the asset management industry, and meld it with the fruits of the advanced research and development being undertaken by CIEAM, delivering the end product on a commercial platform.

The objective of this innovative partnership is to retain and develop the intellectual capital cultivated in Australia for the benefit of both Australian industry and for the benefit of the Australian software export market. Mainpac and CIEAM also recognise the benefits of the international reach of CIEAM’s initiatives, most particularly in the adoption of emerging standards for interoperability across production and asset management environments. This global scope will provide a solid foundation for providing leading edge capabilities for the benefit of Australian users while also providing capabilities that are competitively attractive in an international market.

Driving this relationship are James Kirk, Mainpac’s Chairman and Professor Joe Mathew CIEAM’s CEO. Both share a vision to develop and enhance Australian competencies in a business sector that has, until recent years, suffered from a global lack of development. Efficient asset management is vital to the delivery of superior business results to investors and shareholders through the strong financial and operational performance of expensive assets. This performance imperative fuels the practical value of the Mainpac and CIEAM relationship.

CIEAM participants have early and preferential access to the application sets as they become available in commercial form.

Mainpac’s adoption of a technology base and supporting architecture positions CIEAM and Mainpac to rapidly and economically deploy the results of CIEAM Research and Development, truncating the traditional lag between research and practical delivery. The same technology has enabled a single set of application code to be mobilised in a simple single user environment or in a complex nationally or internationally distributed environment. Thus, the outcomes of CIEAM research can become available to organisations of almost any size, enabling innovative smaller firms access to tools that might otherwise be available only to larger companies.

Examples of the benefit of this approach include:

  • The application of standards such as ISO 15926 and MIMOSA to provide interoperability of asset management information systems,

  • The development of consistent asset management information auditing and assessment methodology,

  • Supporting infrastructure management by combining sensors and Building Information Models (BIM), and

  • The application of Multi-Criteria decision support for optimising asset replacement and renewals.
